The Beach Access Project was set up by Will Behenna.

While on a trip to Alicante, Spain, Will, a fulltime wheelchair user noticed how accessible their beaches were. On his return to the UK he began to research how things were set up in Spain. He discovered that Spain has a set of beach access guidelines and has done several research projects looking into how beach life can be made more accessible.

Further research identified that several other European countries, Australia and America have all done extensive work regards improving beach access for people with medical / mental health conditions and disabilities (PMHCD).

The beach access project was born and now aims to work collaboratively with partners across the UK to enhance and improve current beach access provision.  “Its not just getting onto the beach, its having the opprotunity to move around, get easy access to the water and play an active role in beach life,” says Will.

If you are passionate about inclusion and making Blue Space more accessible, please get in contact and we can start changing the beach environment so everyone can enjoy it.
