Our Vision is to :
“enhance and improve beach access to enable people with medical/mental health conditions and disabilities to play a meaningful and active role in beach life and blue space.”
What is an accessible beach environment?
There are many elements that make an accessible beach environment. These may vary from beach to beach due to whole range of geographical, geological and environmental factors.
The key components include
- Accessible parking
- Accessible toilets and changing facilities
- Appropriate access onto the beach and down to the water
- An accessible area/space on the beach to relax
- High quality multi-formatted information
- Support to access the beach and the water
- Access to water activities e.g. swimming, paddleboarding, surfing
Below are a selection of images that demonstrate the potential for improving beach access. Currently some of these elements are in place on some beaches. However our vision is to improve and enhance beach access for anyone who currently has difficulty enjoying beach life.
